COURSES
There are 4 levels of classes to choose from, depending on your proficiency in WCS . See Descriptions Below !
Registration for next season will open at the beginning of August !
Each course lasts one school year – September through June – and includes 30 one-hour weekly classes, taught in French and English.
You can buy a subscription for the first half (15 classes, September through December), and pay the other half in January.
Or you can save money and subscribe for the whole academic year (September through June) in one go.
Registration is mandatory
Every member of Brussels west coast swing must pay a compulsory membership fee of 25€/year. (from September to September) which cover insurance and membership of the Wallonia-Brussels Danse Federation
The complete cursus has been developed for a series of 30 courses. Students taking a course may also take a course at a lower level if they wish, at a 50% discount, subject to availability and leader-follower parity. However, priority will be given to students enrolled in the level in question.
You can register with or without a partner. If you register as a single follower, you will be placed on a waiting list and admitted as soon as someone registers in the opposite role.
If you have never danced before, tryouts are possible: free-trial classes before the season begins [link] and/or the first class of the season.
Learning WCS also requires a good deal of practice! On top of your weekly classes, make sure you take advantage of the many practice sessions we organize throughout the year. They are free of charge and allow students of all levels to get to know each other and dance together. Check our online Calendar for the dates and venues .
Partial reimbursement of the mutual : Many health insurance companies contribute to the individual registration, some with up to 50€. Ask us for more information.
Private classes
We occasionally offer private classes for leaders or couples wishing to catch up on missed classes, join the courses late in the year or deepen the technical aspects.
Prices depend on location, duration and number of teachers involved. For prices and details, please mail brusselswcs@gmail.com with your request and availability.

LEVEL 2 : IMPROVERS
You have completed at least one year of classes and have mastered the fundamentals – the basic patterns and timing, but also the concepts of elasticity, connection, and Lead&Follow.
You want to be able to guide and follow any partner, and have fun socially thanks to your ability to listen, adapt and connect.

LEVEL 4 : FANATICS / COMPETITORS
This level can be attended on invitation or audition and is reserved to competitors (points in WSDC Novice required) and teachers. Classes focus on musical theory and advanced WCS techniques, competition aspects and video analysis to develop a critical eye.
You have already tried a few official (WSDC) competitions and have points in the Newcomer division or above.
You would like to go beyond the social aspect of the dance and are interested in developing your own skills, critical judgment and understanding of West Coast Swing.
You participate regularly in social and WSDC events (minimum 3-4 per year), attend workshops outside Belgium and never miss an opportunity to dance locally.
You do not mind following classes that are focused on theory, aspects of competition, or video reviews.
Then this class is for you. If you wish to register despite not fully falling under the description above, contact the BWCS teachers’ team. We’ll be happy to guide you on which level is the most appropriate for you, for the time being.

FREE-TRIAL-CLASSES
You don’t need to register. Just show up and wear comfortable and supple shoes (no high heels please).
When ? : Monday September 2nd and Monday September 9th, 8 pm.
Regular classes start on September 16th 2024 and end early June 2025.
Where ?: Maison de Quartier Malibran, 10 rue de la Digue, 1050 Ixelles (1st floor, “Salle à Tout”).
How much ?: free of charge.
LEVEL 1 : BEGINNERS
Never danced West Coast Swing before?
In a relaxed atmosphere, this fundamental course teaches the principles that are unique to WCS (footwork, connection & elasticity, rhythm) and the main basic patterns.
Through a scaffolded programme and amusing drills, you will learn to dance while having fun.
It is a very modern, very entertaining couple dance based on communication and improvisation.
It can be danced to various genres of music, whether contemporary hits or traditional swing songs.
Anna and Quentin will introduce you to the basic principles of WCS (footwork, connection, rhythm, etc.) and the most important basic figures
With their program and thanks to many fun exercises, you will be able to dance quickly. During the course of the year, informal individual assessments will take stock of your learning achievements.
Even if you were not able to participate in the free hour trial session, you are welcome to come and try class of this THURSDAY: see the link below for registration .

LEVEL 3 : EXPERIENCED – Refining your WCS
The “experienced” level is aimed at expert dancers who want to refine their technique, their quality of movement and their listening skills.
It will contain elements of musicality (straight vs swung rhythm, how to dance differently to different genres, blues), body isolation, rolling count, cut time, one-foot spins and more – in short, all the keys for the dancer to develop their own style and interpretation.

Workshops & Social Dancing
Workshops happen on a Saturday and are followed by an informal dancing party in the evening.
These are amazing opportunities you don’t want to miss!
Registration costs are reduced for members, but non members can attend at full price. The party is open to all and free if you attended at least one workshop.
Soft drinks and snacks are available all day and evening for free.

While it is preferable to register with a partner, single registrations are possible (single followers are often put on a waiting list).

We also organize social dancing sessions to enable you to train and share with other club members.
